Perhaps the best tribute to the legendary saxophonist John Coltrane for what would have been his 75th birthday is to see a re-creation of his legend come alive. Impulse ! Records did that with the release this CD. Think of the joy from experiencing a selection of Coltrane's masterpieces decomposed and recreated through a different vehicle and you cannot afford to let go of this CD.
What I mean is the sense and sensitivity flowing from the highly skilled pianist, the chiming Bass player and the insightful drummer put together. This clever trio has chosen to give the otherwise less easing tunes of Coltrane a soft landing, and I was amazed at the tremendous repackaging of Coltrane's messages on display. No one will miss out on the message in "Mr. Day" which is "diligence makes my day, so will it do yours".

In the tamed African beat in "Afro Blue", the idea is to trumpet the joy of this global village that we are in. Great playing also includes: "Maima" and "Moment's Choice" which are all about being together, "Cresent" which deals with the twists and turns in life and "I Want to Talk About You" - Sorry I cannot make out the key message in it. It's your turn NOW to delve deep and tell me what they are !
