Born in Paris in 1955, Bruno Tocanne studied jazz and improvisation in the 1980s with, among others, Steve Lacy Workshop. He joined the Orchestre Sympathique (from Montreal) in 1983, playing alongside Jean Vanasse, Francois Richard and Michel Saulnier and touring extensively in Canada and Europe.

In the 1990s, Bruno Tocanne began his association with pianist Sophia Domancich, playing in her trio and with his own quartet with bassist Paul Rogers, before a musical residency in Lyon with clarinetist Catherine Delaunay (1998), beginning a series of collaborations that included tours in duo to Japan, Poland and Canada.

Since 2000, Bruno Tocanne has formed the Trio Rˆmsistances with Lionel Martin and Benoit Keller (3 albums : 2001 - 2004 - 2006), formed the Tocanne- Martin - Gaudillat trio / "new dreams nOw !" in 2007 and the Nachoff - Tocanne Project / "5 new dreams" in 2008.

Bruno Tocanne also founded the collective imuZZic network in partnership with Denis Badault (former director of the National Jazz Orchestra), Louis Sclavis, Alain Blesing, Hasse Poulsen, John Greaves, Jean Mˆmreu, Xavier Garcia... in addition to recording albums with a number of groups, such as ¡§Tocade(s)¡¨ with Catherine Delaunay, ¡§Rˆmsistances¡¨, ¡§Global Songs¡¨ and ¡§Etas d'urgence¡¨ with Trio Rˆmsistances, ¡§Coeur de Lune¡¨ in quartet with Daniel Casimir...

Bruno Tocanne has played live improvised music to Dziga Vertov's film ¡§The Man with the movie Camera¡¨ and to video-musical creations as ¡§Les bergers fous de la rebellion¡¨ with John Greaves about the beat generation or ¡§Round about 68¡¨ with Hasse Poulsen (2008).
