Lundgren was born in Kristianstad in Southern Sweden in 1966 and raised in Ronneby. He had his first piano lessons at age five, and was soon discovered to have an exceptional talent. He discovered jazz by chance at age thirteen, and was instantly hooked. Lundgren studied music at Royal College of Music in MalmO. Upon graduation in 1991, he joined the Monday Night Band, and performed with a succession of international jazz stars like Johnny Griffin, Benny Golson, Ulf Wakenius, Stacey Kent, and James Moody, etc. Lundgren released his debut album “Conclusion” in 1994, which propelled his career firmly forward. The following year saw the formation of the Jan Lundgren Trio with long time student associates Mattias Svensson on bass and Rasmus Kihlberg on drums, who was replaced in 2000 by Dane Morten Lund. This steady band recorded seven well-received and commercially successful albums for the Swedish label “Sittel” in the period up to 2003. The album “Swedish Standards” released in 1997 and “Landscapes” released in 2003 became classic due to their linking Swedish folk music and jazz. In 2005, Lundgren started a duo with double bass player George Riedel. He also went on a concert tour with French accordion player Richard Galliano and trumpeter Paolo Fresu. In 2006, he joined ACT, and in 2007 released his first album Fresu-Galliano-Lundgren. He also toured with legendary alto-sax player Lee Konitz. In 2008 Lundgren reaped the fruits of his labor. The Fresu-Galliano-Lundgren trio played to sold-out houses, touring Paris, Zurich, Geneva, and Rome, etc. He also toured with tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton, and played with George Riedel in concerts. Also in 2008, Lundgren brought the Jan Lundgren Trio back to life with a new drummer, Zoltan CsOrsz Jr. who proved to be a lucky catch for the trio. Through the years, Lundgren has been awarded a number of prizes. Among them, the Swedish Django D’or prize “Contemporary Jazz Star” he received in 2008 was particularly worthy. In that year, he began a collaboration with the classical trumpet player Hakan Hardenberger and the Swedish writer Jacques Werup. Lundgren has never made life easy for himself, and has always tried to utilize his phenomenal technique to enhance his musicality. His ability to integrate the most disparate musical influences into a fascinating whole is unique in itself. Whether its contemporary classical music, the inexhaustible northern folk tradition or the pulsating groove of jazz, deeply rooted in Afro-American music, Lundgren has a unique way of leading the listener on a voyage of discovery - sometimes relaxed, sometimes utterly invigorating - through his highly individual soundscapes. Royal College of Music in MalmO學習音樂,1991年畢業後加入Monday Night Band,曾與他同台演出的國際知名樂手有Johnny Griffin、Benny Golson、Ulf Wakenius、Stacey Kent和James Moody等。 |
